One stop shop for all of your employer health benefits
When I joined First Dollar in 2020, one of my key priorities was redesigning our web app and expanding it to iOS and Android. The goal was to make employer healthcare benefits more educational, accessible, and intuitive for users.
This included enhancing the user interface, optimizing workflows, and incorporating guidance to simplify complex decisions.

Give members immediate access to all of their benefits—wherever they are. From HSAs and FSAs to fertility benefits, the Health Wallet is one place—for everything.
Benefits can be complex, with utilization critical for some users and savings prioritized by others. To address this, I worked closely with MarComm to map out the user journey for each benefit offering.Our goal was to provide contextual communications guiding members through key statuses.
For example, with FSAs, we recognized the importance of educating users about the "use it or lose it" policy before funds expired. By proactively surfacing this information and providing spending recommendations, we aimed to empower members to maximize the value of their benefits. This user-centric approach extended across our portfolio, ensuring members received the right information at the right time to make informed decisions about their healthcare and financial wellbeing.
We wanted to meet our members where they are, so we simplified the claims process to automatically text them on card swipe and request an image of the receipt (if needed) - this eliminates manual steps. Additionally, I built our claims center from the ground up, giving members full visibility into the status and history of their submitted claims.
Our goal was to provide members with a single, unified card that could support all of their employer benefits. To make this a reality, our product offers with same-day virtual card access, tap-to-pay functionality, and the ability to easily add dependent cards. Our card stack uses Merchant Category Codes to automatically apply transactions to the appropriate benefit account.
Working closely with a front-end engineer, I refined our platform's white-label capabilities to ensure members experienced their employer's brand throughout their benefit journey. We refactored our color system to dynamically incorporate partner brand colors with opacities across the application. Future enhancements will include custom domain names and header fonts.
Every function in our Health Wallet platform has an API, from the consumer experience to the administrative workflows and core bank functions. Partners have used our Deposit, Reimbursement and Investment widgets to make their portal more seamless.
